IITB Remote Centre

The National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has been envisaged as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to leverage the potential of ICT, in teaching and learning process for the benefit of all the learners in Higher Education Institutions in any time any where mode.

It is our proud privilege to bring into notice of all that SVIT-Vasad (RCID: 1298)  has started functioning as a Remote Center of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay which offers workshops for students and faculty in 2012-13. The lectures transmitted through National Mission on Education through ICT (NME-ICT) are ably supported by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

Live online courses/workshops certified by IIT Bombay are delivered by IIT faculty members. Video streamed workshops are well complimented by practical open discussion hands-on-sessions (both Tutorials and Labs). The workshops are intended to enhance the technical skills as well as knowledge of both educators and students to meet the quality standards as demanded by industry, research & academia.

In June-July 2012, IIT Bombay created history by conducting a mega-workshop on Introduction to Research Methodologies, planned to train 10,000 teachers at hundreds of Remote centers spread across the country.  It is a major initiative under the NME-ICT (National Mission on Education Through ICT: Empowerment of Students and Teachers through Synchronous & Asynchronous Instruction), in which IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bombay are working as partner institutes to improve the teaching skills of engineering college teachers of the country in core Engineering and Science subjects.

Dr. Sandipkumar R Panchal, Asst. Professor (EC Engg.) is the Remote Center Coordinator (RCC) & Aakash Coordinator and Prof. Nilay N Shah, Asst. Professor (Electrical Engg.) is the Co-Coordinator, RCC & Aakash.
Aakash is an Android-based tablet computer promoted by the Government of India as part of an initiative to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities in an e-learning program.
The Aakash is a low-cost tablet computer with a 7-inch touch screen, ARM 11 processor and 256 MB RAM running under the Android 2.2 operating system. It has two Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports and delivers High Definition (HD) quality video.SVIT - Vasad, has procured total 148 Aakash tablets under Aakash Centre (1298).
