Electrical Engineering implies electricity, which has flowed into every aspect of our lives. Electrical Engineering Department was started in the year 1997 with an intake of 60. Department has started ME in Electrical Engineering in the year 2013, with an intake of 18.
Well-equipped laboratories with latest equipment provides best learning environment for students with better understating of industrial aspects and Engineering Applications.
Highly motivated and qualified faculties are backbone of department and various initiatives beyond curriculum are taken for multi-dimensional development of engineering students. All the faculty members possess Master's Degree in the various specialized fields of Electrical Engineering. Some of them have completed their doctorate and some others are pursuing for their PhDs from India's premier technical institutions like IITs. MSU, GTU. Very high Retention rate of the faculties at the department is the positive point.
Department since long uses extensively, ETAP, PSCAD, Power World Simulator, MultiSim and MATLAB-SIMULINK software during teaching learning sessions. It is along with the conventional method of pen and paper for solving problems, doing analysis and design of the system/apparatus.
To bridge the Gap between Industry and Academia, the department organizes regularly: workshops, Seminars, Expert Talks, Industrial Visits. Students after their 4th Semester, are encouraged to undergo Internship in various nearby industries, organizations. At final Year of their graduation and second year of PG course students are carrying out projects/dissertations in collaborations with industries.

Name of the Laboratory - Basic Electrical Engineering Lab
Electrical Engineering Lab of BEE is used to carry out experiments of Fundaments of Electrical Engineering like circuits’ concept, Problem analysis, component identification and their use, Design solutions for engineering circuits and design system components. The course is planned to augment the students’ theoretical understanding of important logical principles by engaging them in the real world applications in the lab. The Electrical Lab also has further purpose of developing the students’ experimental testing and evaluating electrical circuits and systems. It is equally important that students have to develop their practice of using Lab equipment and simulation software like those of Industry. Basic Electrical Engineering Lab is fully equipped to provide excellence in practical knowledge building.
Name of the Laboratory - ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENT LAB
Electrical Measurement and Measuring Instrument laboratory is dealing with the Measurement and instrumentation to the Electrical engineering. The Laboratory contains the Various Trainer Kits and Instruments. This lab has been equipped with various latest digital instruments like Digital Multi-meter, Clamp-on-meter, CRO, various types of bridges, different types of transducers. For the measurement unknown medium resistance we have Wheatstone bridge and measurement unknown low resistance we have Kelvin’s double bridge kit. For the measurement of unknown Capacitor we have Schering Bridge, Wien’s bridge, De-saucy Bridge, Maxwell Bridge kit. For the measurement of unknown inductance we have Owens’s bridge hay’s bridge, Maxwell’s bridge, Anderson bridge kit. For measurement of frequency we have Wien’s bridge kit. We also have different types of electrical transducer kits to convert physical parameter into an electrical signal. We have kit of Linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) for measurement of linear displacement. We have kits of Resistance temperature detector, Thermistor and Thermocouple for measure and control temperature. We have kit of Load cell to measure load in terms of weight, force and pressure. We have kit of Opto-transducer with digital RPM meter to speed measurement. We have kit of I to P converter (Current to Pressure converter). We have kit of angular displacement measurement by using capacitive transducer. We have kit to measure conductivity using conductivity cell. We have kit of Strain gauge to measure strain in Cantilever beam. We have kit of pH value measurement using Combination electrode.
Name of the Laboratory - High Voltage Lab
The High Voltage Laboratory at SVIT was constructed in the year 2003-04. Its major facilities are related to the Generation and Measurements of high voltage AC/DC source and Impulse Generator. Impulse Generator with five stages have a rating of 100 KV/100J. Oil test kit is having a rating of 60 KV. 33 kV, 3 Stage Cascaded Transformer (100 KV) is a part of laboratory added in the lab in the year 2010. It is for Generating 100kV AC. Corona Cage for observation of AC & DC Corona facility was added in the HV lab in the same year 2010, Electrolytic Tank for Electric Field Measurements, Solid Insulation tester (up to 5 KV). Sphere gap Apparatus with Point & Sphere gap with different sizes. Horn gap Arrester is a part of HV lab to demonstrate to the students how Electric Arc is quenched. A 3 point solid plate Earthing is provided to ensure proper safety of Apparatus and Human. It is maintained at very low value and is being measured time to time. Additional safety of human being is ensured with door interlocking facility, during the performance of the impulse and AC/DC ac generation to Electrical insulators etc.
Name of the Laboratory - Electrical Machine Lab
Electrical Machine Lab is one of the oldest laboratory of the Department established in the year 2018. We have Different Electrical A.C. & D.C. machines like single phase and three phase transformers, single-phase induction motor, various fractional horse-power motors, 3-phase Induction motor, Synchronous Motors and Alternators, D.C. Generator, D.C. Motors with different ratings. . The Universal Power Meter UPM-90 is used in Energy Conservation and Audit subject. Different parts of Electrical Machines viz. samples of different core material with different stamping, Wires for coil winding, Coil winding machine, Armature, Frame of Electric Motor etc. This lab is general enough to hold a number of experiments suitable for giving students enough exposure about curriculum. The laboratory is also used for research activities in machines and to carry out project works on different areas like energy conversion, control of electrical machines, monitoring and diagnostics of electrical machines.
Name of the Laboratory - Microprocessor Lab
The Microprocessor laboratory at SVIT as constructed in the Year 2003. Laboratory equipped with state of art of facility like various types of 8085 and 8086 microprocessor, MCS-51, C8051 microcontrollers, Siemens make PLC and Various controller trainer kits along with various interfacing modules to demonstrate the detailed applications of microprocessors and Microcontroller. The interfacing modules like Memory interfacing, PPI, External timer, bus controller, ADC, DAC, matrix display and key board, stepper motor, DC motor, seven segment display, Digital input and output modules. The objective of this laboratory is to train and gain knowledge of hardware and software of different microprocessor and microcontroller and PLC based system to fulfil the demand of present hi-tech era. This facility enables the students to show case their talent and interest in the field of microprocessor. Students can implement their thought using assembly and higher-level language like C/C++.
Name of the Laboratory - Power Electronics Lab
Power Electronics Laboratory contains the Various Trainer Kits and Electric Drives. The Trainer Kits include the basic operational characteristics of semiconductor devices like SCR, DIAC, TRIAC, MOSFET, IGBT etc. Various kits of Rectifiers, DC-DC Converters, AC-AC Controllers, and Inverters are used to connect the theoretical aspects students have learnt during theory classes for the better understanding. Student are making hardware based projects in the laboratory and for that they are using the other facilities like Analog Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Digital Storage Oscilloscope (DSO), Power supply with different voltage and current ratings.
Name of the Laboratory - Power System Lab
Power System Laboratory at the Electrical Engineering department of SVIT, Vasad is well equipped with mixed set of facility i.e. Academic laboratory experiment set up and Power System simulation software. At power system laboratory a facility is created recently under the grant received from MHRD under the scheme of MODROB-Rural. A 220 kV volts, 400 km line with a scaled down rating of 400 V, and line length scaled down with equivalent 10 pi sections of L & C with 5A R, L and C and 3 phase, 1 hp motor load and Three phase source with three phase voltage, current and power measurement facility at both sending and receiving end. We can carry out, many experiments: A,B,C,D parameters, Ferranti effect, line performance in terms of efficiency and voltage regulation, different short circuit faults on the line, Shunt Compensation etc. Under the same MODROB-Rural grant received, two more laboratory test set ups are added into the power system laboratory. Three phase synchronous generator 3KVA, Coupled with 3-Phase AC Induction motor as a prime mover with Delta VFDSoft 1.542- VFD software & Power Angle Characteristics of 3 Phase Alternator with infinite bus bars. This will facilitate us to carry out different experiments viz. Sequence Impedances (positive, Negative & Zero Seq. Impedances) of a Synchronous Generator, Fault Analysis (L-G, L-L, LL-G, L-L-L) of a synchronous generator, Power and torque angle measurement for SMIB system. To make students aware and get acquainted train them for the use and understanding of different Power System software are a part of facility at the laboratory. MATLAB, PowerWorld Simulator, ETAP Power Station, PSCAD EMTDC are used to carry out simulation based experiments. It is since long practice of students’ first carry out analysis, design etc. using pen and paper method and then verify their results using these software.
Name of the Laboratory - Research Lab
The simulation lab for post Graduate students was established in the year 2014. At present the lab is equipped with 18 computers with different Electrical Engineering Analysis and design softwares. At present 16 computers are configured with Intel Core I3 Processor, 4GB RAM, 500 GB hard disc. The lab is equipped with computational and Power System Analysis software viz. MATLAB-SIMULINK, PSCAD-EMTDC, PowerWorld Simulator, ETAP PowerStation and NEPLAN. Since long it is a practice to carry out power system design or analysis using pen and paper by the student and then to verify results with the use of these different software. For their dissertation work PG students are carrying out their research work on the topic of their selection under the able guidance of faculties. Their mini project and seminar is being conducted in the research lab. Computing Facility at this laboratory is also being used for any industrial research work.

MATLAB-SIMULINK with control system tool box, SDSP toolbox and Sim power toolbox, PSCAD-EMTDC, PowerWorld Simulator, Finite Element Magnetic Method (FEMM) and Scilab software with a kit of Single card PID tuner. Since long it is a practice to carry out power system design or analysis using pen and paper and then to verify results with the use of these different software.

The simulation lab for post graduate students was established in the year 2014. Periodically it is upgraded to meet present demand. At present the lab is equipped with 18 computers with different Electrical Engineering softwares. Computing facility at the PG simulation lab is at present 18 computers which are configured with Intel Core I3 Processor, 4GB RAM, 500 GB hard disc with 19’ LCD monitors. The lab is equipped with computational and Power System Analysis software viz. MATLAB-SIMULINK with control system tool box, SDSP toolbox and Sim power toolbox, PSCAD-EMTDC, PowerWorld Simulator. Since long it is a practice to carry out power system design or analysis using pen and paper and then to verify results with the use of these different software.

Engineering institutions have been continually modernizing and updating their curriculum to keep pace with the technological advancements and to meet the demands of the industry. In recent past, numerous universities brought a significant change in the graduate programs of engineering at first year level. Department Library play an important role in providing the guidance through avail popular books for the subjects in their engineering course. Library helps students to overcome their initial apprehensions and initiate a life-long affair with electrical and electronics engineering subjects, books and author. Its main function is to assemble information from published sources both within and without the library. Also, to secure information directly by correspondence and interview from individuals and organizations specializing in particular fields, and to present this information at the appropriate time and place correlating the content. It also presents a clear and concise exposition of the principles and applications of electrical and electronics engineering.
Name of the Laboratory - SEMINAR HALL
At department of Electrical Engineering of SVIT, Vasad, we have established a facility of a Seminar Hall in the year 2012. The seminar hall is having facility to accommodate 90 attendees. Seminar Hall is used for different activities carried out at Department level and Institute level. Seminar hall is present we are using to conduct seminars, Parents Teacher Meet, Conference sessions, Expert talks etc. It is having air conditioning facility and LCD projector for presentation purpose. A good quality audio facility is used for proper voice communication between presenter and audience. Many other activities are conducted apart from mentioned here. Professional training sessions are conducted by external agencies for overall growth of the students.
Name of the Laboratory - Switchgear & Protection Lab
The Switchgear & Protection Laboratory at SVIT was designed and constructed in 2004-05. Its major facilities are related to the protection of power system network (transmission and distribution) and their equipment (generator, transformer, induction motor, etc.). A MDROB grant of Rs. 7.01 lakh is received in the year of 2020 to upgrade the Protection Lab. Simulation Software : Station Monitoring Software- ABB.
