SPANDAN is held in our college in the odd semester. It is conducted after the joining of the new students. The main purpose behind the organization of SPANDAN is to make the new students of the college familiar with the sports and cultural activities of the college. A bond is developed between the juniors and the seniors during SPANDAN. It is conducted differently for boys and for girls. Our college encourages the participation of girls as much as for boys, which gives them an equal opportunity. The different games conducted are:

  • Chess
  • Carrom
  • Push Up
  • Rope Skipping
  • Surya Namaskar
  • Table Tennis
  • Tug of war
  • Wrist Fighting

All around the year students are encouraged to participate in the different sports. Annual Sports Meet is conducted a week before the Annual Day. Individual and team events both are held, as well as indoor and outdoor games. Indoor games like chess and carrom test the presence of mind of the students whereas, table tennis and badminton test momentum. Individual athletics events like 100 M running, 200M running, 400M running, shot put, discuss throw and long jump are also held.

Team events held are cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, kabaddi and kho-kho. To make sure that every student gets an equal opportunity, for the team events like football and cricket, 4 students are taken from each year in each department. From them, three students from each year have to play on the field. For basketball and volleyball two students play from each year.

It is difficult to form team of football for girls department wise, due to the lesser number of girls in Engineering. For the reason that the girls get a chance to participate and play football, one girl is compulsory on the boys’ team from each department.

If the department does not have a girl then they play with ten players instead of eleven. This encourages more girls to participate in football. An ‘Award Ceremony’ is organized in which the winners are awarded with medals and certificates.

Every year the department that performs the best gets the ‘Championship Trophy.’ All the students awaited for the Annual Sports Meet every year enthusiastically.

Aim of NCC

The ‘Aims’ of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio–economic scenario of the country. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organised, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.

Pledge of NCC

We the cadets of the National Cadet Corps, do solemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity of India. We resolve to be disciplined and responsible citizens of our nation. We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concern for our fellow beings.

Advantages of Joining NCC

  • NCC is a highly reputed body which is also a second line of defence. In India, many youngsters are trained in line with defence in case the need arises. If young students want to make it their career option, then being a NCC cadet holds a lot of weight. As they are directly associated with the ministry of defence.
  • Other than just military training the cadets also learn several other valuable things such as selflessness, honesty, discipline, hard work and ways to build confidence and gain leadership qualities.
  • Since NCC camps are held all over India therefore there is training in various parts of the country, hence students get an opportunity to visit new places and learn the art of independence. They are required to use their social skills and their senses to get to know new places and adapt to the varying environment. Other than just social skills they also get to learn about the history and art of the new place.
  • NCC cadets learn to take pride in them and the training also strengthens the spirit of being an Indian. This helps them gear towards joining the forces and providing their 100% when the country is in need of them.
  • Other than military activities, the cadets are taught other skills such as parachuting, paragliding and basic aviation courses because of which they have an edge over others when appearing for the armed forces. Other than that, they also have a special quota which is very useful in case of final selection to join the armed forces.
  • Under the regime of exchange programme, there are a few selected students who get an opportunity to visit other countries and learn various things which are practised in other nations and exchange experiences with cadets who happen to come to India from foreign lands.
  • There are a total of 32 seats which are set aside for cadets who hold NCC certificates provided they have scored 50% in graduation with at least a B grade in C level examination. If all this suffices, then they are eligible for SSC without even qualifying for a CDS written exam. All they have to do is clear the SSB interview.
  • Other than SSB they also get a preference over others in the CRF and BSF.
  • Other than just armed forces there are several central and state Government organisations who give special preference to NCC cadets.

COMMON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AMONG STUDENTS
