The Undergraduate program of Computer Engineering was introduced in SVIT in 1998 with the intake of 60 which has increased to 120 now. The department is also offering Master’s programme (ME) in Computer Engineering since 2011 having intake of 18.
The department is well equipped with the state-of-the-art laboratories consisting of latest configured computers, latest versions of software & other peripherals. The department is rich in terms of qualified and experienced faculties. Excellent pedagogical practices adopted by the faculties of the department not only equip the students for achieving high scores at GTU exams but also make them easily acceptable by the industries.
Computer Engineering Department organizes industry visits, expert talks, Workshops/STTPs and Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) to enhance knowledge and skills of students as well as the faculties. The department runs certification courses of Red Hat Certified System Administrator and Red Hat Certified Engineer.
Many research papers are published by the faculties of the department. More than 10 faculties of the department are currently pursuing doctoral studies and are on the verge of completion. Students also receive financial support from GTU under Student Start-up & Innovation Policy (SSIP), Govt. of Gujarat for their project proposals. Final year students of the department go for two-months’ study to countries like Canada, USA, etc. under International Experience Programme (IEP) of Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad. Students also participate in various University level project competitions and win prizes. Students from this department also participate in various extra-and co-curricular activities. Students of the department also use excellent sports facilities of the college and shine in the sports tournaments too at university-level as well as national level sports events. From second year onwards Soft skill development programs are arranged for the students. The department prepares the final year and pre-final year students for placements by organizing mock interviews. The department has very good track record of students’ placements.

Name of the Laboratory - Internet of Things (IOT) Lab
Demand of the day is to learn and develop smart systems. IOT lab is the place for it. Lab is well equipped with microcontroller kits, Arduino Board, various sensors like Temperature, Light, Pressure and actuators like rotary motors, Servo motors to have step by step hands on experience to learn threefold activities of practicing Embedded Systems, Networking and Communication. Data logging for analysis and controlling applications are developed using cloud technology. Testing experiments are performed using Simulators and Live Projects can be deployed further.

This Lab is based on wireless networks and mobile systems and their applications in Different fields. The objective of the lab is to develop interactive applications in smartphones with multiple activities including audio, video, and notifications. Lab is equipped with Different mobile app Development platforms and software like Android Studio, Xamarin Studio, SQLite and many more... along with the software used for understanding Wireless applications. Students are using it for making Interactive mobile applications for different platforms, Put them on the platform like Play store, Appstore and make global use of it.
Name of the Laboratory - Database Management System Lab
This lab is dedicated for students to work on practical experiments, projects, and research work, related to courses such as Database Management Systems. A database management system (DBMS) is computer application software that provides a way to manage data. The requirement of modern days is to have an automated system that manages, modifies, and updates data accurately. The objective of this lab course is to understand the practical applicability of database management system concepts, working on existing database systems, designing of database, creating relational database, analysis of table design. This is achieved by a DBMS in robust, correct, and non-redundant way. DBMS lab aims at practicing and achieving this aim by using various software’s such as ORACLE. All these require a thorough practice of various DDl, DCL and DML queries.

This Lab is based on Software Engineering and it’s related fields like s/w designing and s/w testing .The objective of this lab is to enable the students to analyze the system and do designing for that and applying different testing on system by using different tools like Microsoft visio, Creatly, SmartDraw, Selenium etc. Students are using this lab to learn different DevOPs tools like Docker, Jenkins, Ansible, Github for automization of SDLC processes in software making journey.

Artificial Intelligence Lab is equipped with sufficient number of computers, software, simulators and other equipment with inter and intra-networking facility required for practical performance. It provides a wide approach in programming and enables to apply knowledge in latest computer algorithms, and Artificial Intelligence. Guidance is provided to the students by a team of faculty experts. The practical are carried out using suitable programming languages, tools and simulators available in the laboratory. The lab resources enable the learner to walk through the process of data preparation, model definition, model training and troubleshooting for designing software with more degree of automation.

Web Programming Laboratory gives a hands-on, step-by-step guide to develop interactive,Dynamic/static and user friendly Website. Laboratory covers a practical approach of learning HTML and CSS , Languages for building static websites.Integrating text, image, animation, video, and sound content on the web Pages.You will learn practically how we can establish communication between the Web page and Web server using scripting language like javascript,PHP. You will learn how server interact with database like MySql.

The Operating System has to understand the functionalities of various layers of the OSI model, the difference between hardware, software; operating systems, programs, files, and also Identify the purpose of different software applications. You will be the Simulate and use command-based for the understanding of the CPU scheduling algorithms, memory allocation, deadlock, process synchronization, disk management, and file organization. The lab contains LINUX servers and networked nodes to study about UNIX commands using Telnet

To provide hands on training to the students in programming languages and drafting exercises as per the curriculum. To familiarize the students with Programming Concepts all the Software is available in this lab. In this lab Code Blocks, Net Beans, Eclipse, Microsoft Visual Studio, My SQL etc all the software is available.

All the required software’s are installed with antivirus and maintenance of laboratory are at high priority.

Shiv Vyas a student of CE Department, SVIT Vasad under the guidance of Dr. Neha Soni (HOD CE. Dept.,) was selected to showcase his innovative projects namely “Economical Deployable Optical Network Communication System for Space and Water”. In this, he developed a secured and economical system which can be used by astronauts and scuba-divers for communication with each other in space or underwater, for faster transfer of data from space to earth and from ocean to earth surface, communication of different aircraft and Submarines with each other. This system can be used to communicate with any lost astronaut or spaceship in space or a lost ship or diver in ocean. Shiv Vyas has bagged the 5th Prize in the ProjectExpo 2019, Surat and has awarded a cash prize of Rupees 10,000 for the project “Economical Deployable Optical Network Communication System for Space and Water”.
