Profile

Dr. Chetan Kotwal received Bachelor in Electrical Engineering degree and Masters in Electrical Engineering degree with specialization in Industrial Electronics from M S University of Baroda, and PhD from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He has more than 22 years of experience in teaching and research. He has authored number of papers in various national and international journals and conferences. His extensive research areas cover Power System Dynamics, Power System Frequency control in Deregulated Environment, Optimization of Power Transformer, Congestion Management of Power Transmission System, Cyber Security Aspects of Smart Grid, Distributed Computing for Smart Grid Application, LVRT issues and Solutions in WECS, Solar PV Integration issues, Power Quality Mitigation in Electric Arc Furnace Industry etc. He has guided number of ME dissertations and Guiding PhD students from EE, EC, and Computer Engineering Areas. He is also member of various professional organizations like ISTE, Institute of Engineers, and Society of Power Engineers. In 1999, he joined Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Technology, Vasad, where he is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Current Activities:

Teaching the courses at UG and PG level in Electrical Engineering. Guiding UG projects and PG dissertations. He is institute coordinator for National Initiative for Technical Teachers Training (NITTT- a Govt. of India Initiative). He is institute coordinator for Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC). He is heading the Electrical Engineering Department Since October, 2010.

His research interests are in Power Electronics applications to Power System: Power System Dynamics- SSR Mitigation using FACTS Controllers, Smart Grid, Power System Economics, Swarm Intelligence, PV- Grid Integration Issues, Transmission –Congestion Management using FACTS controllers, Power Quality issues.
